Voices Unheard: Taysha Jarrett

Taysha Jarrett (she/he/they) joins host Jessica Samuels for this episode of Voices Unheard. Taysha is autistic, bigender, and queer; growing up they were bullied and beat up and, according to Taysha, at school the “teachers didn’t know what to do with me.” Once their Mom stepped in and demanded certain accommodations, Taysha was able to take a moment to study how the rest of the world interacted with one another, learn from them, and began to emulate others’ interpersonal skills. Taysha and Jessica will discuss these experiences, the tedious process of learning how to blend in, and how at the age of 53, Taysha feels they do a “pretty good job of passing.”

This episode of Voices Unheard is produced with the financial support of Krushel Wealth Management of Raymond James Ltd. A proud member and advocate of the LGBT2Q+ community, Krushel Wealth Management of Raymond James Ltd. is one of B.C. Interior’s premiere LGBT2Q+ wealth planning organizations.

Voices Unheard: Ashley Weis

Ashley Weis (she/they/them), who performs as Biawanna, joins Jessica Samuels for Episode 2.  Ash/Biawanna identifies as queer/non-binary and is a proud WOC (Woman of Colour) Indigeneous Fijian/Soloman. They are a dynamic singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who’s worked on multiple projects in different genres since they found their start at the age of seven. Their blend of indie-pop, RNB & dance-pop creates an energy that’s equal parts smart, sexy, and fierce. They channel a certain strength through their namesake, Biawanna, matriarch of the Solomon Islands, who gave birth to a long line of chiefs that they are a descendent of. Biawanna is currently getting ready to release their debut EP, ‘Care’, which should be expected soon. They will appear on Unicorns.LIVE’s QUSIC as musical guest on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Queer As Funk – Press Release

Queer As Funk brings Pride 2020 online

( Vancouver, BC ) – Vancouver’s hottest, queerest party band Queer As Funk is bringing Pride directly to your home.

We were set to present an epic show at the Commodore Ballroom, but 2020 had other plans. Instead, Queer As Funk is working with Side Door to create this fun, family-friendly live-streaming concert. The Zoom-based show is ticketed and interactive, which means the band can see the audience, and the audience can see each other. We’ll be telling stories, answering questions, and playing all of your favourite tunes.

“There’s nowt so queer as folk” or so the old English adage goes, and Queer As Funk believes in celebrating those differences. This year let’s celebrate together, from a safe distance.

Unicorns.LIVE Virtual Drag Bingo: Win over $1000 Jackpot in Prizes!

What a whirlwind Pride Month 2020 has been! We continue to manage a number of challenges in our daily lives on Planet Earth: the ongoing COVID pandemic has affected us all to varying degrees, and the injustices perpetuated on racialized persons, people of colour, transgender people, and all LGBT2Q+ people remain at the forefront. Mother Nature also decided to throw in some wild weather this June, for good measure…

At Rebellious Unicorns, we’ve been very busy launching our new streaming platform, Unicorns.LIVE, which has presented a welcome and positive distraction in a world that can sometimes feel disconnected and dark. Pride Month has felt terribly strange for many of us who are accustomed to coming together to celebrate. With this in mind, Rebellious Unicorns Production Company Inc. is closing out the month with a flourish of colour and frivolity with Unicorns.LIVE Virtual Drag Bingo on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Virtual Drag Bingo airs live on Unicorns.LIVE on June 30 at 7:00 pm (PST), and live streamed on the Unicorns.LIVE Facebook page. This fabulous and FREE event will be hosted at Friends of Dorothy Lounge in Downtown Kelowna by two of our favourite Queens: the sensational and shimmering Sparkle, and Kelowna’s Sweetheart Ella Lamoureux

That’s right — you can attend and play in person at Friends of Dorothy OR you can play online! Your hostesses will guide you through a veritable wonderland of numbers and nonsense, replete with prizes and Pride!
