A Sip With Sparkle: Winter Blunderland

Sleigh bells ring…are you listening? Or, is that just Sparkle’s Grindr notification going off again? Whatever the case, we can’t wait for you to join us for A Sip With Sparkle on Monday, December 14, 2020: Winter Blunderland! It’s that time of year again when Sparkle is covered with the white stuff from head to toe… we’re talking about snow, of course! A blizzard of beverages will be consumed by one and all over the Holiday Season, but Sparkle’s featured cocktails on this episode will be a “Hot Toddy” and “Santa’s Milk”. The sexiest elf this side of the North Pole, Ella Lamoreaux, will once again provide assistance and charm…while the girls decide who’s on their Naughty List or their Naughtiest List! It’s the 2020 finale of A Sip With Sparkle on Monday, December 14, 2020 live at 7:00 pm PST only on Unicorns.LIVE!

About ‘A Sip With Sparkle!’

She twinkles, she glistens, she sparkles…and she’s the Okanagan’s cocktail queen! Join the glimmering drag star Sparkle for A Sip with Sparkle!, as she concocts a bevy of beverages live on the interwebs. Known for her energy, charisma, sassy wit, and fabulous blonde hair, Sparkle serves up a delicious combination of glamour, alcohol, and witty repartee. With locally sourced ingredients and step-by-step instruction on how to create these luscious libations, you’ll be sipping (and, perhaps, snort-laughing) your way through each episode. Sounds fabulous, nest-ce pas?

QUSIC: Leila Neverland

Raised by a Persian Zoroastrian villager, a family of Jewish immigrants, and a drag queen uncle, artist and mother Leila Neverland (she/her/hers) knows a few things about diversity, inclusivity, and unconditional love. She weaves an ambiance of true togetherness at every live performance and offers timely reflections of all that is life, death, and the decolonization of our collective consciousnesses. Neverland’s emotive energetic authenticity inspires pure joy, empowered rage, and healthful tears as she leaves audiences breathless and full. Her exquisite voice joins the ranks of those who inspire her like Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Bjork, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse. She is currently working on a few singles, a couple music videos, and an album in beautiful BC, where she resides with her two children and her cat, Georgie.

Damase Elis (she/her) is a Calgary born singer-songwriter with roots in Batoche, Saskatchewan; roots that make her proudly Métis. Damase formerly performed under the alias ‘Riel’ but has since returned to performing by her given name. Her music is a culmination of both ancestral and contemporary sounds, inspired by literature, folk tunes, and a unique lineage. Damase most recently performed in the Central Okanagan during the Kelowna Pride Festival on September 26, 2020.

With joyful tones and happy beats, Hayden McHugh (he/him/his) looks to make you dance and smile with his brand of feel-good dance-pop. He is a producer, songwriter, and vocalist from Calgary, Canada, who is ‘a vibrant, exciting, and collected individual, poised to make his presence felt in the ever-evolving Calgary arts community’. Hayden has been performing professionally for 5 years, putting on and performing at various events for his program MusicGivesYYC. He has performed with Cirque de la Nuit at venues like the Palace Theater and Pride Calgary, opening for artists such as Scenic Route to Alaska at the Gateway, and being nominated for Male Artist of the Year by the YYC Music Awards in 2018. His most recent single, TAKE YOU, not only received over 13,000 streams on Spotify, but also opened up opportunities with Beakerhead, Calgary Pride and collaborations with artists from around the world.

Mariya Stokes (she/her) grew up in Stavely, Alberta and by eight years old she was sneaking into her parents’ small-town bar on Friday afternoons to sing with the local jam band.  She has pursued music ever since with a heavy focus on songwriting. Stokes was named the Country Music Alberta 2019 Female Artist of the Year. Her debut single, “Hands on My Body”, was released in February 2019, and is a simple, sexy anthem that blurs the lines between country and pop and was the #1 Most Active Indie at Canadian Radio the week of its release. Her follow-up single, “Christmas, Arizona,” was released in November 2019, and will be followed by her third single which will be released October 2nd 2020.

In 2019, Stokes opened for RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar Trixie Mattel and Canadian pop sweetheart Jocelyn Alice in Calgary, Alberta. She was selected to work with Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee Terri Clark at National Music Centre in Calgary, Alberta during her RBC Masters in Residence Program.

Actively involved in charitable endeavors, Mariya is an Artist in Residence for the Women’s Centre of Calgary (2020), and has worked with the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre writing original songs, poems, and stories that captured the essence of the community with clients of the organization. The result of the latter project was two albums, released in 2015 (“Shelter From the Storm”) and 2016 (“Verses Vs. Homelessness”, which features her song “Lucky”). She has also independently created and executed two coat drives for the Drop-In Centre.
