Coming Up on Unicorns.LIVE

Next week’s shows include Voices Unheard and QUSIC

Tuesday, September 1 – Voices Unheard, 7 pm – 7:30 pm, featuring Robert Verigin, presented by Rebellious Unicorns, Unicorns.LIVE, and Kelowna Pride Society, sponsored by Castanet, and hosted by Kanata Hotels ~ Kelowna and Online

Robert Verigin (he/she/they) sometimes uses pronouns, and sometimes doesn’t, because he’s usually just referred to as “that old queen”. On this episode of Voices Unheard, Jessica Samuels is joined by Robert, who is now 68 years young and is widely known by his drag persona, Sophona Dick. Growing up queer in a small BC community in the 60s and 70s, he was outed by his father in 1968, spurring a move to the “big cities” of Vancouver and Seattle where he finally felt free to be himself.

The conversation between Jessica and Robert will span decades full of fascinating and at times heartbreaking tales, including how the HIV/AIDS epidemic stole so many lives from this earth. The stories he will share are sure to provide inspiration and hope; Robert strongly believes that no matter your age, sexual identity, where you live, or what your struggles are…it really does get better.

Wednesday, September 2 – QUSIC, 7 pm – 8:30 pm, featuring Patrick Masse, presented by Rebellious Unicorns and Unicorns.LIVE, hosted by Friends of Dorothy Lounge.

Patrick Masse (he/him/his) is a Canadian West Coast recording artist and songwriter who has been a constant in the Canadian country music scene since the release of his 1998 debut album “Get There From Here”, which garnered him a nomination for the prestigious BCCMA Ray MacAuley Horizon Award. Patrick’s second album “Mend The Man” charted two singles in 2009. Extensive airplay of the two albums earned Patrick a loyal fan base and established him as an artist who consistently stands on the leading edge of inclusivity. His recent single “Little Bit of Saturday” (which Patrick co-wrote) was produced by Kuya Productions – best known for working with Alessia Cara, JRDN, Shawn Desmond and Kelly Clarkson.

2019 found Patrick busy with summer touring, performing shows in Lethbridge, Calgary, Seattle, Ottawa and Toronto. Last fall, he headed to New York City where he teamed up with Drake Jensen and Donnie Lee Strickland to perform at the legendary Stonewall Inn as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.

As a member of the BCCMA Board of Directors, Patrick is extremely involved in BC’s thriving country music industry – both as an artist and an entrepreneur – and commits his talent, energy and resources to the West Coast’s rich, ever-evolving arts scene. Plans are underway for the release of Patrick’s new single and video “Let’s Ride” in early 2020, with a self-titled EP to follow.

QUSIC live episodes are generally only available to current Unicorns.LIVE subscribers; however, thanks to the support of The Kanata Kelowna Hotel & Conference Centre, this livestream will be available to everyone! NOTE: The episode will be available for viewing after September 2, 2020 to Unicorns.LIVE subscribers only.

Wednesday, August 19 – QUSIC, featuring Terez, 7 pm – 9 pm, presented by Rebellious Unicorns, hosted by Friends of Dorothy Lounge, sponsored by Susan Dolan ~ Kelowna and Online

Terez (she/her/hers) may be making her original debut releases as a solo artist, but this young pop singer is anything but new to the music scene. Already with a fan base of over 100K followers, collaborating with influencers like Nicole Arbour, and having performed across North America, sharing stages with heavy hitters such as Keith Urban, Terez is making a mark on her own accord with the release of original music.

With her passion originating from songwriting, Terez uses her music as a platform to discuss topics such as self-love, mental health, and acceptance. Everyone has secrets and unflattering truths; Terez aims to showcase her truth to make fans feel more accepting of their own. Her deeply vulnerable, and personal lyrics aim to make listeners feel related to and understood, while her pop melodies and dynamic vocals make you want to dance. Terez has more interest in one’s humanity rather than their gender, and looks forward to telling her musical story on QUSIC.
