Rebellious Unicorns Production Company is a Kelowna-based event company focused on creating unique experiences to build stronger communities.
This summer, Rebellious Unicorns launched QUSIC, Kelowna’s first LGBTQ2+ programming featuring emerging musicians coming out and onto the B.C.’s music scene. The livestream series highlights emerging LGBT2Q+ artists in concert, along with an intimate conversation with the artist. Dustyn Baulkham is leading the way with the LGBTQ2+ community in Kelowna, creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQ2+ artists. We spoke with Dustyn about QUSIC and the importance of online communities during the pandemic.
Summer hasn’t exactly gotten off to the brilliant start we are used to here in the sunny Okanagan. However, it is summer and there are few things better during this time of year than getting together with friends in the evening to mix, mingle, and catch up. Rebellious Unicorns Production Company Inc. is pleased to announce that we’re bringing back the original MX. on Thursday, July 23, 2020! Well, maybe not exactly “The MX. OG”…read on!
We’re thrilled to invite you to join us at Dunnenzie’s Pizza Co. in the Lower Mission (4638 Lakeshore Rd) from 5:30-7:30 pm. We’ll be keeping it social and keeping it safe; physical distancing measures will be in place ‘MXing’ it up with creative ways for everyone to get a chance to meet and make new connections.
Rather than our usual “food station” set-up, Dunnenzie’s(our gracious Host Partner who is providing the snacks and a welcome beverage for all in attendance) will offer a variety of appy plates upon arrival; register, grab your food and a drink, and get mingling!
Not familiar with The MX.? The MX. was created as an opportunity for the LGBT2Q+ community to network, gather, and socialize. This is also an opportunity to meet like minded people away from those lovely apps. Allies are encouraged to join; the more, the merrier!
In addition to meeting super fab people, the MX. also fundraises for the Etcetera Youth Group and 100% of the entrance fee will be donated to them. Space is available on a first come first serve basis. Please register in advance so we can let Dunnenzie’s know how much food should be prepared for our guests. Suggested donation for admission is $10 (or $5 for students (19+) with valid student ID).
Dunnenzie’s will also be assisting us in our on-going fundraising efforts for Etcetera by creating a “Mystery Prize Table”. For $20 per ticket, you’ll have the chance to win…something fabulous! Or, something else. Dunnenzie’s generous suppliers and partner merchants will be providing the prizes–what the prizes may be is for us to know and for you to find out!
If you’re planning on joining us, we hope you’ll reach out to some of your friends and work colleagues and consider safe carpooling. Parking at this location can be challenging, and keep in mind that they will be open to the public as well.
We look forward to seeing you for our garden party at The MX. onThursday, July 23, 2020 from 5:30-7:30pm at Dunnenzie’s in the Lower Mission. Questions? Please reach out to Kris Johnson, Manager of Logistics & Partnerships for Rebellious Unicorns Production Company Inc. by email email@example.com.
The MX. is held on the unceded, traditional territory of the syilx (Okanagan) people.
Hungry for some socializing? Thirsting for interaction? Us too! The MX. Online returns on Thursday, May 21 over the ‘Lunch Hour’ from 12-1pm with a focus on some of our community’s favourite LGBT2Q+ owned providers of food, beverage, and good times.
These dynamic and resilient owner-operators will bring you up to speed on how the pandemic has impacted their business, current state of operations and how you can access their services, what the future may hold, and more. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with our guests and have your questions answered during the moderated Q&A session to follow.
There is no charge to attend but we ask that you register in advance. Please consider using the donate option to donate to Etcetera Youth Group.

Join us – Live!
When viewed through a technological lens, today’s world has become too polished, too perfect, and over-curated. But real life doesn’t have an ‘edit function’ or ‘photo filters’; real life happens, moment by moment…in real time.
Unicorns.LIVE is a safe space, with tons of room for creativity and expression but absolutely no room for hate. We hope you’ll enjoy our inclusive lineup of entertainment options, along with our approach to experiencing life and each live stream as it unfolds.
Unicorns.LIVE: Authentic. Unfiltered. Live.
This past Saturday was our second episode of A Sip With Sparkle – in celebration of National Caesar Day, it was all about Caesar.
Rebellious Unicorns Production Company is always in pursuit of improving our events and experiences for you, our loyal guests and attendees. We are excited for 2020 to announce the following:
The Okanagan Young Professionals has joined us as a partner
New Annual Pass program
New ticketing partner – Eztix – Pre-pay for registration online
Host or Partnership opportunities
NEW Partner the Okanagan Young Professionals
Their mission: The OYP Collective is creating a dynamic, vibrant culture and community that attracts and retains young professionals to the Okanagan Valley through a variety of volunteer, social, professional, sports, arts, cultural events and activities.
The Okanagan Young Professionals have been involved with the Sugarplum Ball since the beginning and have been involved in supporting the LGBT2Q+ community in a variety of ways for many years. We are thrilled to have them joining us in the MX.
NEW MX Season Pass
We’ve been looking for a way to provide our regular supporters an easier contribution method for supporting the Etcetera Youth Group. Starting now, you can buy a Season Pass to the MX for $80. Each year we have 10-11 MX events depending on the availability of our hosts and venues. Not only are you saving some cash, but 100% of the funds are going to Etcetera on a regular basis, getting the funds directly to our “glitter critters.” This is thanks to our new partnership with Eztix (see below)!
With offices in Vancouver, Toronto and South Africa, this LGBT2Q+ and Canadian owned company has partnered with Rebellious Unicorns on all of our events this year. We now have a streamlined solution that allows our supporters to purchase their registration online, with the only fee charged back being a credit fee. More excellent news: EZTix is waiving their fees for all MX events to ensure that more $$ gets to the “glitter critters.” The Bridge Youth and Family Services, which administers the Etcetera Youth Group, has been linked through EZTix so you can donate additional funds if you have the means. Any additional donations over $20 qualify for a tax receipt. Please note that your registration for the MX does not qualify for a tax receipt.
Our available dates for hosting the MX are filling fast. If you or your organization are interested in hosting our monthly event we would love to hear from you. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
We are thrilled to be finalizing a few partnership opportunities with amazing people and businesses. This means we only have two opportunities left for you to get your business or organization in front of the LGBT2Q+ community. Connect with Kris today! email@example.com
The pumpkin spice lattes are out in full force, the trees are varying shades of autumnal colours, and the weather is cooling down, but things are still smoking hot for Kelowna’s LGBT2Q+ community.
As you may have heard, Kelowna Pride recently announced a brand new queer wine festival, set to launch this fall. OUT in the Valley will be the first event of its kind in the country. In addition to that exciting news, there are even more reasons to feel gourd (get it?) about fall in Kelowna.
