SOS Pride – March 2020 Newsletter

Here’s what’s happening in March

in the South Okanagan

Thank you to everyone who attended our February social at Cue’s! It was a blast and we had lots of new faces and even new friends from Kelowna.LGBT come and participate!

We are also so thrilled at the community turnout to the Out in Schools event at Cleland Theatre on March 5 – over 100 community members and youth were in attendance!  The presentation was also at all of the middle schools and high schools this week within School District 67.  Representation and having LGBTQ2+ stories told is so vital to moving progress forward for the next generation.  Thank you to Melisa Edgerly for leading this community initiative!

Our apologies for getting our March newsletter out a bit late this month…this week is jam-packed with events all week long, check them out!

Friday, March 13 – Saudade ~ Kelowna

Six men, one hour, and a feeling of longing and melancholy, stunningly expressed through the collision of elegant balletic lines and dynamic, street-style energy.

You do not want to miss Saudade – a contemporary dance created by LGBTQ2+ artist, Joshua Beamish.

Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY has created in collaboration with The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Dutch National/Het Nationale Ballet Junior Company, Cape Town Opera, Vancouver Opera, New York City Ballet Principals Wendy Whelan for Restless Creature and Ashley Bouder for The Ashley Bouder Project, and many more.

On Friday, March 13, he brings his work to the Mary Irwin Theatre at 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $28.

“As Saudade came to a close and the audience roared, this quote by Maya Angelou came to mind, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” Beamish’s cast spoke with the most brilliant dance vocabulary but the feeling of saudade that swirled inside me as the men glided across the floor is what I’ll never forget.” – Madison Embrey, New York Rag on Saudade by Joshua Beamish
